Bucephalandra is an increasingly popular plant in the aquarium hobby due to their wide variety, unique coloration, overall hardiness and ease of maintenance. All of the many species of this plant are found in Borneo, one of the largest islands in the world and part of Malaysia and Indonesia.

Bucephalandra are rheophytic (lives in fast flowing waters with changing water levels), making them suitable for both emersed and immersed environments. They propagate through rhizomes and thus do best with hardscapes to attach to. They are slow growing and come in many leaf structure varieties and colors.

Black Titan is a rarer Bucephalandra that is exceptionally notable for it’s dark hue and crocodilian leaf structure.

  • Colony Origins: We try to ensure they are coming from a farmed source to reduce wildlife damage, and screen them for chemicals, toxins and pests.
  • Colony History: As buce are too slow growing to propagate in our tanks to sell, we bring in new shipments when available, immerse them until sold. Thus it is hard to provide a consistent history for our buces.
  • Colony Notes: As the majority of buces have yet to be properly classified, please note that there are many unofficial names to describe the same species. We suggest that you keep these attached to a hardscape such as slate rocks or driftwood, and have a fully cycled and established tank with sufficient flow. Buces are hardy but will often melt in poor tank conditions.
