There are mixed sentiments between hobbyists on whether culls should be sold, particularly among purist breeders who wish to elevate the hobby by improving the quality of available shrimp rather than diluting it by circulating undesirable traits.
We generally understand this principle, and attempted to cull our shrimps by placing them into our Synodontis Lucipinnis Catfish tank where we completely expected them to be food. Surprisingly, the catfish largely ignore and possibly do not even eat the shrimplets. As a result, the population of shrimp in this tank boomed and contains a wide variety of coloration with a majority being “wild” such as light green to brown, speckled, but also a minority being bright orange, red, green, blue, etc as they are culls from our main tanks.
Note that your order will be random colors, with the majority being “wild” colors, and a minority being colorful that will reflect the ratio of our tanks. We unfortunately cannot take requests to handpick specific colors from this tank.
We recognize that hobbyists have different reasons for why they wish to consider shrimp. Some may be unconcerned with quality and coloration as they are intended to be food for their livestock, or are satisfied with “janitor” shrimp that maintains their current tank, or even appreciate the more natural wild coloration. Thus, we chose to offer these as an approachable means of trying shrimp for new hobbyists that may not be willing to deep dive into the hobby from the start.
